How do I connect SYNC to a Wi-Fi network?

Connecting to a Wi-Fi®* network with SYNC®** requires you to know the password of the network you are attempting to access and inputting it into the SYNC system.

Connecting SYNC to Wi-Fi

Important: Ensure your vehicle is on and running in a well-ventilated area, and is in Park (P).

Select your SYNC generation from the drop-down options below for the instructions to connect your SYNC system to Wi-Fi. If you need assistance determining the generation of your SYNC system, select the first drop-down option.

Notes: 

  • If your SYNC generation is not listed, it is not capable of connecting to a Wi-Fi network.
  • Instructions may vary. Refer to your Owner’s Manual for information specific to your vehicle.

Identifying Your Lincoln's SYNC Generation

Either:

  • Enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and select Check for update.
  • Log in with your Lincoln credentials, choose a vehicle from your garage, and select Check for updates.

Your SYNC generation will appear on the right side of the page.

SYNC 4

  1. Tap Settings or the Home icon on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
  2. Select Connectivity.
  3. Choose Manage Wi-Fi Networks.
  4. Toggle the System Wi-Fi slider to On.
  5. Tap View Available Networks.

    Note: You can also search for hidden networks by selecting Add a Network.
     
  6. Select an available Wi-Fi network.
  7. Enter the network's password if prompted.

When you are connected, a Wi-Fi Connectivity icon will show on your SYNC screen. After you add a network, your vehicle will automatically connect to it when in range.​​​

  1. Press Settings on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
  2. Scroll to the right and select Wi-Fi & Hotspot.
  3. Choose System Wi-Fi.
  4. Toggle the Wi-Fi slider to On
  5. Press View Available Networks.
  6. Choose a Wi-Fi network from the list of networks displayed. 
  7. Enter the network's password if prompted.

When you are connected, a Wi-Fi Connectivity icon will show on your SYNC screen. After you add a network, your vehicle will automatically connect to it when in range.

*Requires in-vehicle USB mobile broadband connection, PAN-supported mobile device, or proximity to an outside wireless hotspot.
